Coleman is a brand that has been in existence for quite some time and has been proven as a trusted company, producing everything from lanterns to generators. Coleman offers generators in three categories.

In the first is the portable style called the Contractor. This type has seven different models that vary in horsepower, wattage and select features. They are mainly used for work on job sites but are also used for back up in homes. This type of generator ranges in wattage from 3,250 to 17,000. The horse power ranges from 7 to 25 . Only one of these models are approved for use in California. The others are approved for use in forty nine states. If the unit is run at fifty percent it will average out at about seven hours. They have warranties that run from two to five years depending on the style you choose.

The second line of Coleman generators is called the Family Series. It offers thirteen different models to choose from. These are best for use in homes as a back up source of energy. The wattage for these models run from 2,300 to 8,750. They have varying sizes of gas tanks running from a holding tank of three gallons to eight gallons. They will run for approximately ten to twelve hours if used at half strength. Each of these types has a low oil feature that will automatically shut down to prevent damage. The horse power on these models run from 5.5 to 12. A few of these are approved for use in California and Canada, with the others being approved for all other states.

The third series of Coleman Generators made are called the Recreational Series. This type is a smaller generator that is used for running small household appliances or for activities like camping. There are three models which all come with sturdy handles on both sides, making carrying them fairly easy. They are quite light in weight with the engines being run on three to four horsepower. The smaller gas tanks hold between 1.3 and 1.5 gallons of gas.
